Sattal | Chaffi | Pangot - Birders' Paradise

When one is talking about Bird watching, these 3 locations, especially Sattal does come into one’s mind. These places are so rich with Birds’ diversity that people have extensively explored these locations. Anyone, who has started Bird watching, already doing it, or want to start with it, can come to this trip and we’re sure, you will not be disappointed.

The main reason is that these locations combined together offer a wide variety of species and collectively, one can easily see more than 200 species. Even though, the species count is much higher than this.

Sattal: It is hilly area at approx. 1300 meters height. More than 300 species are found here over the year including residents, migrants and  sometimes vagrants. Chaffi:  This is a river-side location, very close to Sattal. One can see Crested Kingfisher, Brown Dipper, Forktails, various tits, thrushes, Owlets and some more birds.

Pangot: This place is about 1.5 hours away from Sattal and it is at approx. 2000 meters height. Here, the diversity is different, it’s more cold, since the altitude is high, species also differ from other 2 locations. The main highlights of this location are Cheer Pheasant, Koklass Pheasant, Black Eagle, Rufous-bellied Woodpecker, Himalayan Woodpecker and many other birds.

People generally combine Pangot with this trip, but one can opt out too if planning for less number of days.
